Abstract:
In the field of computer graphics, photorealistic computer-generated
imagery is achieved by modelling physical phenomena such as how light
interacts with materials. Stellar Code is a higher order, functional
shading language used to program such effects on computers. Its
distinctive feature is a static type system that keeps track of the
binding times of all expressions. This so called binding time system
is monomorphic, which tends to lead to significant code duplication.
This thesis devises an extension that allows writing binding time
polymorphic functions and formalizes it for a significant subset of
Stellar Code.
